Birdlovers Ecuador Trekking
Holidays
Ecuador is home to several species of birds. In fact, it
is one of the prime bird-watching places in the whole
world.
There are a lot that you can see in Ecuador;
the key to making the most out of it is to know where
these birds can be found so you can plan your birdwatching
and trekking holidays in the exotic country of Ecuador.
Here are some of the best places to go bird-watching in
Ecuador:
Antisana Ecological Reserve
The
Antisana Ecological Reserve is home to the Andean Condor. The
condor has the distinction of being one of the largest birds to
take flight in the world. It has a wingspan of over three
meters, and weighs as much as 10 kilograms. One part of this
tour is a visit to the cliffs where the condors nest and breed
their young.
The
condor shares the Reserve with other birds like the
Andean hawks, falcons, and gavilanes. There are also
hummingbirds to be found here together with its larger
cousins.
Birdwatching is not the only thing that you can do in the
Antisana Ecological Reserve. You can also find the remnants of
the last violent eruption of the Antisana volcano: a valley
that boasts of abundance in vegetation as a result of the lava
flows induced by that eruption.
Napo Wildlife Center
The
Napo Wildlife Center is home to over 500 species of both birds
and mammals. One of its main attractions are the flocks of
brilliant green parrots and parakeets that number by the
hundreds.
The
Center lets visitors view the wildly colorful fowl through
viewing blinds; the guests are hidden from the birds’ view and
thus are able to watch them in their natural behavior without
disturbing them.
Green
parakeets and parrots are not the only attractions in the
center; there are also mealy, yellow-crowned, orange-winded,
and blue headed parrots.
Sometimes tourists can have the rare opportunity of
viewing scarlet macaws through one of the two viewing blinds
within the property. Giant otters and several species of
monkeys can also be safely viewed within the Napo Wildlife
Center.
The
center also features a canopy platform placed on top of a
120-foot tree where guests can view the birds and other animals
in the center from an elevated vantage point. It also has a
lodge where guests can spend the night after a tiring yet
enjoyable day ecuador
trekking. Some say that the birdwatching in here is even
more amazing than some of the Peru trekking tripos that
birdlovers can go on.
Andean Cock of the Rock Trail
The
Andean Cock of the Rock Trail takes three days to tour. The
first day does not expose the tourists to the birds as this is
done in the second day of the trek; the first day, however,
gives guests the opportunity to bathe in thermal baths before
reaching the San Rafael Falls.
The
next day, after breakfast the tour moves through the actual
trail where you will find several species of birds including
parrots and mountain toucans.
The
trail is also home to several plant species that will amaze you
as much as the birds will.
