Teach Your Bird To Understand "No"
It is important to teach your bird to understand "no" so that it will behave properly. It is all too often that pet birds are given away or treated badly because they haven't been taught this simple manners command. It only requires a little dedication and vigilance to teach your parrot how to behave.
When you teach your bird to understand no, you should say the word in a stern tone of voice but not too loudly. Yelling at the pet bird simply provides drama, and parrots love nothing more than good drama. Use the same tone you would like the naughty child in a first warning.
At the same time, make eye contact with the bird and give it what is known as the evil eye. This expression simply means to look at the bird just as you would at a bad child with a stern expression on your face, frowning and with your eyes squinted. This lets the parrot know you mean business.
After saying the word and looking at the parrot with the evil eye, if the parrot stops the behavior, continue to maintain eye contact for a short time but drop the evil eye expression. This lets the pet bird know you aren't going to allow him to return to the bad action.
Of course, while you teach your pet bird to understand no, you should always reward him for good behavior. When he stops the action that is bad, give him a treat after a few minutes. Anytime he has been good for a long period of time, reward him with words, love and his favorite food.
It only takes a short time to teach your pet bird to understand no and you will never be sorry you took the time to teach the command. It can make a big difference. Of course, your bird may learn to say it right back at you!
So develop a broader sense of birding. Bring birds around more often and dance to the tune of their music while you get and keep them in your area longer with bird feeders.
