Toys For Pet Birds
Once you get a bird, you need to provide pet bird toys. These keep your feathered friend entertained when alone and provide a
means of burning off some of that abundant energy. There are a few things to know about bird toys so that you will find the ones your pet
will enjoy most.
Choose pet bird toys based on the size of your bird. Little birds want small toys while bigger birds will tear up a small bird toy
in only minutes. Large birds need large, sturdy toys to play with. All parrots love wood to chew, but the size of the pieces of wood in the
toy should relate to the size of the bird. A small budgie will be intimidated by a toy sized for an African Grey parrot! A macaw can break
and ingest parts of a plastic budgie toy. Budgies can stick their heads inside improperly sized toys and break their little necks. Choose
right-sized toys for your pet bird.
Look for well-made toys that have rings to attach the toy to the cage that is strong and doesn't have any place the bird can trap
a toe or wing. Look for parts that won't come off and potentially be ingested by larger birds.
Birds are intelligent and pet bird toys for large birds can involve puzzles. Some toys allow you to place a treat inside for the parrot to figure
out how to get out of the puzzle. This will keep your pet bird interested for hours on end. Eventually they will get the treat out, but you can
replace it for more fun. Even smaller birds love challenges. One toy that a budgie might love involves string that is knotted. Hours of time will
be spent untying those knots until the last one is undone!
So develop a broader sense of birding. Bring birds around more often and dance to the tune of their music while you get and keep
them in your area longer with bird feeders.
