A Look At How Hair Designs Have Evolved

Wisemen have followed the past through intervals taking note of specific changes in various focuses. Theyve watched for political and economical changes, variations in religious activities and trends as well as diversity in social and civil circumstances. These individuals will even turn their attention to the world of art and music as they watch time march forward. Theyve even been able to watch the trends and variations of hair designs.

From biblical recordings and dating back even farther, the techniques found in hair styles have indicated the time period. One can look at the hair designs of the time and find the era in which the person lived. Regardless of the country where the person lived or the culture from which they were accustomed, hair design seemed to be very important because it showed individual identity as well as cultural affiliation. For example, you can look into the Egyptian history and be given a peek at what seemed to hold a lot of importance to the Egyptians based solely on their hair design. Adorned with colorful beads and exquisite jewels, the Egyptian Pharaohs differentiated themselves from the rest of the population based on their elegant hair styles.

Time has always changed and with it, the change in hair designs has been very obvious. For example, the Indian culture has always used extraordinary braids and knotted styles for grand occasions such as marriage ceremonies. They would part their beautiful natural hair in the center with bindi in their hair to show they were married. In Japan, the culture insisted on using hair design to show the working class. These people pulled their hair back into a single braid. On the other side of the spectrum though, the artistic talent of artists like Geisha enabled them to use their artistry in their clothes, make-up, and even hair design to stand out in the publics eye. In fact, Geisha even sported the look of the Split Peach to ensure people who saw her understood she was an apprentice. This enabled her to render the praise of a dedicated following of clients.

While history has proven to move through the hair designs created, the styles chosen by those in Hollywood today have proven to be those that gain attention in the United States. Since the 30s Hollywood stars have stood out in the limelight because of their beautiful and elegant healthy hairstyles. Since the actresses of the 30s and 40s showed great appeal in the limelight if they were blondes, actresses like Mae West and Jean Harlow made the black and white films sing with appeal. Even Veronica Lake could contribute her fame to the platinum blonde look on the big screen. From the 50s on into the late 60s, actors, actresses, and musicians set trends for the general public. These trends have always centered on the fashionable selections in wardrobe but more particular in hair styles. In fact, theyve made the stars as popular as the movies and shows which made them a household name.

From Marilyn Monroe to Farrah Fawcett to Dorothy Hamill and even todays goddess of hair Jennifer Aniston have all changed the way we look at hair, and that reflects our ever changing society. But most importantly, it conveys the image of the character they are playing and the real person behind the role. Hair is an artform that we wear on our body. How we wear it tells others what our personality is and how adventuresome or conservative we are. And from the changes in hair designs weve seen throughout history, we can certainly expect to see more unique, radical and even ridiculous hair styles in the future.
