Just the other day I took my shih tzus to the veterinary doctor for a parvo vaccination. George, is just over 2 and a healthy 17 pounds. Eve, just under two, had ultimately reached a good weight of 17 pounds. The two of them are happiest when they are visiting their friendly veterinary doctor soon, I think it is an attention thing. Eve insisted on going in first by provoking such a bustle, George followed with his tail between his legs.
Eve sprinted back out when the veteran had finished testing her Nowadays, Eve started to retch until all contents were out of her stomach. Our shih tzu laid down and wouldn't move. We were obviously bothered at this stage and all we could do was wait and expect the best. It went from bad to worse, she lost control of her bowl, and didn't seem to be able to concentrate on anything.
Our vet John was very quick off the market and got some steroids into our shitzu as fast as he could. Only time would inform whether this would have the preferred effect on the vaccination she had been given. She started to breathe weirdly which bothered us a lot. John then suggested us that we get her to the specialist dog hospital in our area so they could offer her 24/7 care. At this stage we could only plead that everything would work out.
The hospital put her on a drip that night. Few people in the clinic were particularly positive about the potential result for our shih tzu dog . She spent most of the week in this hospital, being given fluids, plasma, antibiotics, and a lot of TLC.Basically she went into shock after being given her treatment by John, it wasnt his mistake as he could never have known this was going to take place. The good news is that she is making great strides forward in her recuperation.
Whilst recovering she looks to spend a lot of time drinking water and drowsing off whilst she recovers every day. I believe she will come to a full recovery with time. It has been a sharp learning curve these last few months.
The shih tsu breed are most effected by these forms of injections apparently and it is not that unusual .I am on a bit of campaign now to make sure people manage to get "full disclosure".The price was shocking although I didnt mind paying it at all at the time as it protected our dogs life.I really consider strongly though that people should never have to observe what happenned to us.
